FLIGHT LESSONS Available Now

I’m starting today.

After releasing my book, Flight Lessons: Navigating Through Life’s Turbulence and Learning to Fly High, I have been caught up in a whirlwind of activities – speaking engagements, webinars, and glorious book signings where I have been reconnecting with old friends and connecting with new ones. Coupled with some challenges on the home front (let’s just call it “coping with teenagers”), my life has been full. My PR agent and book development guide Wendy Kurtz warned me “it’s going to get crazy.” Crazy good is what I say.

Ok, some things have been put on the back burner. Getting a newsletter out combined with building my blog have been on my “to do” list for quite a while. A bit toooooo long. I found myself in an ongoing cycle of questions. What is the best format? What is the best way to connect with you? The best platform? The best font?

Oh, how the questions kept rambling through my head.

Then, I remembered the day I started to write my book. I opened my computer and started typing. Invoking the wisdom of Anne Lamott in her book, Bird by Bird, (a book on writing), I saved my first draft with the filename “my story SFD.” It was smiling reference to her guidance to get started and write a “sh&&ty first draft.” That’s how I got started. Now nearly four years later, you get to read the published version of that story.

We must take the first step and let go of the desire to have everything in order, everything perfect right out of the gate. What we do have to do is get started.

What are you putting off today? Remember, whatever it is it doesn’t have to be perfect. But you must start somewhere.

I just did. And you just read my very first newsletter post. Shall I call it my SFN? Let me know.

Here’s to getting started TODAY.
